Seven Days With Your Breath

Welcome

An Introduction

Seven Days With Your Breath

Welcome. You've already done the hardest part — showing up. The rest can be gentle.

Come as you are, however that is. There's no level to reach, no achievement waiting at the end, no one watching or judging. Just seven quiet meetings, ninety unhurried minutes each, with something that has been quietly holding you up since your very first moment — your own breath.

I've noticed that most of us have never actually been introduced to our breathing. No one ever told us that the chest has rooms, that breath has layers, that our minds lean on breath the way a tired traveller leans against a wall for rest. So together, over these seven sessions, let's get to know it properly — slowly, kindly, with plenty of space to simply be.

Our first three sessions will gently visit the chest one storey at a time — the belly, the ribs, the upper chest. The fourth brings these together into one smooth wave. The fifth adds rhythm. The sixth invites balance between the two sides of ourselves. And on the seventh, we let breath, body, and mind finally walk hand in hand.

Each session gives us room to breathe — literally and otherwise. Time for practice, time for your questions, time for stillness, and time to simply notice what shows up. Nothing here is rushed, and nothing is forced. If a day asks too much of you, we'll do less of it together, never none of it.

By the time we reach day seven, you will have met your own breath — really met it — perhaps for the first time in your life. And that, I think, is a beautiful place to begin.

I'm so glad you're here. Let's start, one quiet breath at a time.

With warmth, Tilottama

Learning Outcome of the 7-Day Programme

What participants will know and be able to do by Day Seven. By the end of the seven days, participants will have moved from simply observing their breath to consciously shaping it — gaining tools they can return to for the rest of their lives.

Knowledge & Awareness

  1. Understand the three-part structure of the breath: belly (diaphragmatic), ribs (intercostal), and upper chest breathing
  2. Recognise the link between breath, nervous system, and mental state
  3. Understand the role of rhythm and the extended exhale in calming the body

Practical Skills

  1. Practise diaphragmatic (belly) breathing independently
  2. Combine all three chest regions into the smooth Full Yogic Breath
  3. Apply even and extended-exhale breathing ratios (e.g. 1:1 and 1:2) for calm
  4. Practise Nadi Shodhana (alternate-nostril breathing) safely, without retention
  5. Combine body relaxation, breath, and a simple mental anchor into one integrated practice

Outcomes for Wellbeing

  1. A calmer, more regulated nervous system and stress response
  2. Fuller use of lung capacity, replacing shallow, high-chest breathing
  3. A simple, repeatable 10-minute daily practice to carry forward
  4. A practical "three-breath reset" tool for stressful or anxious moments
  5. A safe, well-grounded foundation in pranayama, with clear guidance on when and how to seek a living teacher for advanced practices
Recognition

Certification

Participants who complete all seven days receive a Certificate of Completion issued by the Zen Institute, recognising the full arc of the practice.

Please note This is not a Teacher Training Certificate (TTC). It simply recognises that the participant has come to understand themselves better and grown more self-aware — it does not qualify anyone to teach others.
